Wealth 3.0 – A Practitioner’s Observations on Emerging Trends and New Opportunities

Rate This Session

Guest Speaker: Jonathan M. Forster, Partner, Baker & Hostetler LLP

Host: John A. Warnick, Esq., Founder of Purposeful Planning Institute

Description: Jonathan Forster, formerly in the life insurance and investment management professions in the 1980s, now a partner and Northeast practice leader housed in the Washington, DC offices of BakerHostetler, a national law firm, has worked collaboratively with Dr. Jim Grubman, who introduced him to the world of Purposeful Planning, Wealth 3.0 and the PPI community. Turns out Jon has been practicing for several decades, providing what we might call purposeful estate and legacy planning services. Upon learning what a fascinating professional journey Jon Forster has had, Jim strongly recommended I (John A. Warnick) have a conversation with Jon and invite him to share his observations on where we are coming from, what trends he has observed and what new frontiers and opportunities are emerging for us and our clients. Several conversations later, I am grateful Jim introduced me to Jon and I believe there are many valuable insights Jon can share with us. Please join us for a conversation around trends, new opportunities and an exploration of how practitioners in large firms can offer much more than just technical excellence. Jon’s observations will be of great value to both legal and financial advisors, as well as the consultants and family office professionals who are seeking to serve more purposefully.

Introduction to Our Guest Speaker

For the past 30+ years, Jonathan Forster has served as an outlier in the private client space. BakerHostetler’s Private Wealth Group, which he manages as the Northeast practice leader, has honed a unique legacy management experience that removes siloed, conflicted advice, incorporates family values and takes clients through an iterative, interactive and multi-disciplinary process using a fintech application (unique to BakerHostetler).

From his beginnings in the investment management, life insurance industries (an advisor at EF Hutton), along with an early interest in technology, Jonathan’s personal experience harbors a very different vantage point, which was incorporated into BakerHostetler’s culture, philosophy and business model, to serve successful families and their operating businesses, family offices (the original Convergent, today Pathstone), and the life insurance industry (where the firm serves as outside counsel to their trade association (Finseca formerly the AALU), life insurance distribution firms (NFP, portions of the M Group, and Crump) and insurance carriers (Guardian, TransAmerica and Ameritas). Having continued visibility into these various constituents affords the practice group the opportunity to deliver a service like no other law firm.
